Our RV uses diesel fuel to heat the water and heat. We were stationary for 2.5 months and had to use heat every night. We filled the tank about 200 miles before we arrived (it holds 150 gallons). We checked the tank periodically to make sure we were fine. Within 10 minutes of leaving the park the low fuel light came on. I forgot it means 50 gallons left not 50 miles. We did stop immediately and filled though.
We arrived in Apache Junction and our site is a nice size. We are a little close to the highway so we do hear the highway noise but other than that enjoying the park.
On our first night, we ventured over to the local Eagles. They were packed as it was bingo day. No place to sit for a drink but probably best as it was so smokey in there you could hardly breathe.
We took our first hike in the Superstition Mountains on a trail called Lost Goldmine Trail. It was a very pretty 4-mile hike with about 350 ft elevation and longhorn steer along the path.
Played bingo at the American Legion. Turns out we weren’t supposed to be there because we aren’t members and were not there with a guest. Good thing we didn’t win or we might not have gotten paid.
On Tuesday we played pickleball and I managed to take a bad fall and severely sprain my wrist (hopefully not broken).
We took a four-day three-night road trip. Covered lots of miles, and many tourist spots, and enjoyed more of Arizona. The long and moderate hikes I had scheduled got changed to easy walks because of my wrist.
On Wednesday we drove to Tonto Natural Bridge, the world’s largest natural travertine bridge. There were only two other cars there and we met one of the occupants on our walk they turned out to be from Holt, Michigan. What a small world.

Slowin’ down to take a look at me From there we drove to Meteor Crater to view the crater that was caused by an iron-nickel meteorite 50,000 years ago.
Thursday we continued our journey north with a visit to the Montezuma castle then onto the Grand Canyon. We came in from the east and drove the 22-mile north rim to the Visitor Center. We did s much walking as we could on very icy paths. The views were phenomenal. We continued to Sedona through the mountain road and enjoyed the evening sky on the red rocks.
Friday we drove to Jerome through the mountains and it felt like we were in the hills of Italy. I have no idea how trucks can get supplies to the city with the winding, switchback roads. From there we stopped at Watson Lake and Lynx Lake for a couple of walks. We finished in Prescott on Whiskey Row for a few then over to dinner at Papas Italian restaurant. Our friends were at Mamas Fish House in Maui so together we were the Momas and the Papas.
Came back late Saturday after a stop in Cave Creek for shopping and lunch to get ready for the super bowl party and final round of the PGA tournament.
