Week of 11/1/20- Arrived in Yuma for our winter stay. The park isn’t exactly what I thought. I am so glad we will be with friends and exploring the area. I know we are in the desert however not seeing any green grass for 6 months might be a problem however we on the Colorado River (a short walk from our site). Actually, we are in Winterhaven, CA however the park calls it Yuma and stays on Arizona time. Someone needs to tell our electronic devices that so we really know what time it is.
We found a golf course about 15 miles away, Mesa Del Sol. We played on Monday and I shot a 97 (good for me) and found out on Sunday’s they have a couples tournament. So we played on Sunday in the tournament. It was a handicapped Stableford 2 person scramble tournament. Woohoo, we took first place and John got longest drive so we won $50 in gift cards. We should probably quit while we are ahead. They have a women’s league on Tuesday morning at 7 am. Who in the world golfs at 7 am when you are retired, not me!
We explored the city of Yuma and discovered where Sam’s Club is (no Costco). We drove to the Foothills (about 20 miles away) to a garage sale. We were looking for a table that we could use outside that was heavy so we could play cards etc, and leave when we are done. Of course, they had one and realized we had no way to get it back. Time for a folding table.
We drove one day to the border of Mexico (only 7 miles away) however, John is waiting for his new passport to arrive so we couldn’t cross.
We were invited to go jeeping on trails. It would be about a 7 hour day. You have to deflate your tires, watch for rocks, and get bounced all over the place. There is not one thing about this that appeals to me, hence we did the golf tournament.
Saturday was cold and windy AND football Saturday. Not a good day for the Spartans. It was so cold I turned on the electric blanket at night, of course, I still had the fan blowing on me.
Celebrated my birthday with our friends and playing poker. As Kate stated she was going to take my money in poker and she did. The next day Cheryl and I teach her how to play cribbage and she wins both games.
There is a casino nearby so we checked that out and they have bingo daily so will try that sometime soon. Kate will probably win all the money at bingo too.
