South Dakota – Wyoming- 6/1-6/6/20

6/1 – Today we played tourists, which means we drove for hours. We toured Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park, and Crazy Horse Monument. We walked the steps to the base (or as far as you could go) of Mt. Rushmore. John presented me with a beautiful gift after leaving the gift shop. Except it really was a rock he picked up off the ground. John is just always thinking of me. I’ll treasure it forever, oops, I think I dropped it.

After Mt. Rushmore we toured Custer State Park and took the “Wildlife Trail” to see 10 different species of animals. I’ll admit a traffic jam with Bison crossing was cool, but other than that, pretty desolate, so not sure worth the $20 park fee. While leaving Custer State Park, they were doing road work and just laid 1000 miles (ok 5 miles) of gravel and tar and our Jeep was destroyed. There is caked tar and gravel everywhere under the car. We just added another 1000 pounds of weight.

6/2/20 – We drove to the Badlands and I was determined to stray a little and go onto the reservation. However, they have signs everywhere that say local traffic only. They are getting hit hard with COVID, so being a rule follower I didn’t go on so still haven’t seen Walt Longmire.

John loves climbing the rocks and getting close to the edge. Me on the other hand I slip and fall if the ground even has a pebble on it to make it uneven. Therefore I try to stay far away so I don’t end up at the bottom of the Great Basin.

Wall Drug actually opened 6/1 so we did the obligatory stop at the tourist trap. According to John, they did have a cool Western store inside. I wouldn’t have a clue because I am a true city girl. I went for line dancing lessons with friends a few months back and just like aerobics, when everyone went right I went left.

6/3/20 – Today was Deadwood. I love this town. Because of COVID, it was pretty dead “haha”. We visited a couple of bars, had a great dinner at Mavericks, and played in the casino. I played slots and lost. John forgot to turn his ticket in so we have a ticket worth $810, oops $8.10 to cash. Anyone going to Deadwood soon? Well after I lost my retirement savings ($50) it was time to go home.

6/4/20 – Today was a great golf day at The Golf Club at Red Rock. A very challenging course. Woohoo even had a birdie from hitting off the green and rolling back in. Oops, I am working on this blog and something smells. I forgot I was heating up soup for dinner. Oh well, after 3 beers who needs to eat, especially when I don’t normally drink beer.

6/5/20 – We have arrived in Buffalo, Wy. OMG, I had no idea that this was the home of the Longmire festival every year (canceled this year) and most of the actors fly in. Apparently this is the home of the author of the Longmire books (didn’t know the series was based on books either). I live such a sheltered life.

6/6/20 – Today we went off-roading with the Jeep through the Crazy Women Canyon and then took another path (after it just rained) to a lookout. Not recommended when you have to go to the bathroom because all it does is jiggle your insides. I am truly a city girl and have no idea why people choose off-roading and four-wheeling.

There was a do not cross sign, he apparently can’t read.

I have 1000 Badland pictures, but they all look the same!

Deadwood, I could spend more time here. I really liked this town.
