Illinois to Iowa- 5/19-5/21/20

We left Illinois Tuesday, spitting a little rain. It pretty much rained the whole 3 days in Illinois. Yesterday we were supposed to golf, however, the ground was so wet we decided not to play. Probably a good thing since I wouldn’t want to get a hole in one when you can’t take the flagstick out. John and I decided to visit the Antique Archeology store (the pickers store). That took 3 minutes. We then went to another store in Le Claire, Iowa to look around, that was another 7 minutes. Woohoo, 10 minutes done. They have lots of casinos in the area, but all are still closed until the end of the month. So we headed north to take the next bridge back across the Mighty Mississippi. That was a 35-mile drive one way so we got to some countryside and we found a Home Depot. I bought a new hose for filling the tanks to cleanout. We also bought a hatchet to chop wood. Now I have to find a spot for that. The Buffalo Bill Museum is closed, so we couldn’t visit that.

Today’s farm report from Eastern Iowa, 90% planted, corn 1 inch tall, wet ground, but no standing water.

Arrived at our KOA in Waterloo. Couldn’t get the electricity to hook up (and oh yeah, the high voltage light was on the whole drive – last time this was a new transfer switch), so essentially two problems. Finally figured it out it was a breaker on the pedestal and they replaced very quickly one problem solved. Turned everything off including the inverter switches and turned back on and the high voltage light gone. Still don’t like it, hopefully, when we depart tomorrow we won’t get the warning.

So time to run a few loads of laundry. Well, that would be nice if we had water. Now I need to figure out why water is coming into the RV as it is coming out of the connection just fine. After what feels like two hours and trying all different connections, it appears the water regulator isn’t allowing it to get into the bus. Removed that and wallaa water. I also discovered yesterday we have a nice water filtering system on the bus, so I need to replace those filters if I only I could remember where I saw the plastic filter remover.

The weather was supposed to be in the 70’s the whole time we were here and the reason we didn’t travel through the UP (because of cold weather up there). Well, they have 65 degrees and sunny and we haven’t gotten above 60 degrees and clouds. We played golf yesterday and looking forward to a bike ride today. Then driving to North Sioux City, ND tomorrow to catch up to thunderstorms.

So let’s recap, initially no electricity, no water, cold, cloudy, and windy weather. The wood we bought for the fire wouldn’t burn, pretty sure too wet. Living in an RV is so much fun – LOL.

South Hills golf course in Waterloo, Iowa. Notice the bright sunshine – LOL
KOA waterloo from the golf course, you can see our rig in the middle. Very nice park, there is a water park next to us for kids (closed due to COVID) and a casino across the street, all closed due to COVID.
