Indiana to Illinois – 5/15-5/19/20

Got to Michigan City, Indiana without any incidences other than driving on really crappy roads and construction on I-196. We had a really nice fire. All the facilities are closed due to COVID-19 so I got to test out the “fixed” toilet. Nope, just wishful thinking on my end, plugged again and had to plunge it. I am beginning to wonder if it is just bad design.

I decided to post the question in my FB group for our type of coach. Yup, it appears to be a design flaw. Apparently, there isn’t enough space under the floorboard for the proper way a sewer hose should run. Now we will test out the bathroom more thoroughly in the master (or as John calls it his bathroom – hehe not anymore).

Okay, kind of had a meltdown today after leaving Michigan City. Not for the obvious reasons, but our GPS kept telling us to get off I-80 and go through I-294 around Chicago. John refused and said no reason to get off I-80. Our GPS is designed to tell us about height limits, etc and I kept thinking we are going to have an issue. John decided to stay on I-80 much to my chagrin. It turns out there was a weight limit. Once on that part of the road, it just said if you are over 4 tons then speed is 60 mph. So we are all past that and on our way to destination Camp Hauberg on the Mississippi River.

In Prophetstown, IL the ground is wet but saw some corn that is 1/2 inch tall. That is the crop report from John – LOL

Holy crap again. We just pulled into Camp Hauberg after the GPS taking us on a wild ride through the country when it was a straight shot on Highway 84. Apparently the address on the campground website isn’t the most accurate. The people here are really nice, however, the park itself is a little “interesting” to say the least, pictures below. The good news we are right on the Mississippi River which is cool. Parking the rig was a little bit of a challenge. First, she has us pull through and the utilities are on the wrong side, so we need to pull out and back in.

Sunday went across the Mississippi River to the Iowa side as the restaurants are starting to open in Iowa. The first place followed all the guidelines, all staff wearing masks and seating at least 6 feet apart. We sat outside so felt relatively comfortable. The second-place not so much. We sat in the corner away from everyone, but the place was packed.

Michigan City campground. A lot of seasonals made it a little trashy looking, however, it was only a one night stop. I didn’t take pictures of the seasonal sites.

Camp Hauberg, top facing to the right (where we are), to the left the rest of the campground.

Camp Hauberg on the mighty Mississippi.

We drove over the Mississippi to the Iowa side as they just opened restaurants. We sat outside and enjoyed a Corona to toast the first public appearance since the quarantine.
