29 days on the road. I have come a long way from being anxious. After moving so many times and getting the system down, I am pretty comfortable (hope not too comfortable that I don’t use my list). We talked to many people on the road that live like this full time.
Some of the tips and suggestions and our general thoughts:
- Plan one day a week to just do laundry, clean, and grocery shop. Yes, those still have to be done on the road.
- We met a couple who does not tow their car, she follows him completely. They decided it was best for them because she gets too anxious and they can have some alone time. They traveled the country fo two years like this.
- Allow some time to just relax. We were on the road or touring every day because we were trying to cram in so much stuff because we were on a schedule.
- I booked all the campgrounds in advance to assure spots. Many of the people we met did not and didn’t seem to have an issue finding a spot. However, I read all the reviews before booking. I looked for things with the services we need, sewer, 50 amp, water. I just prefer to have sewer than going to a dump station. Once a campground had the services I wanted I looked for cleanliness and friendliness. The reviews were all pretty accurate.
- I also used a program called RV Trip Wizard to do my planning and get my directions. On the road, I had the printed directions along with my phone. The only issue is my phone doesn’t always use the same directions as the program. I need to figure out how to upload the app directions to my phone because the app takes into account height limits, which we have to follow.
- I also use an app called Trucker Path so I can see where there are truck stops to fuel up.
- Michigan so far has the worst roads by far. Other states and provinces have patchy spots however Michigan is continuously poor.
- it turns out that other than a few items that I forgot we had everything we needed on the RV and a house full of stuff back at the condo. Conceptually downsizing will be easy, it’s just getting rid of it that won’t be easy.
- We spent a little more money than I thought we would, however, we did everything we normally would along with additional site seeing. A summary of our exp is below.
- Total miles = 3068
