RV Winter 2024 – (November) Grand Oaks near The Villages

We enjoyed catching up with friends. On our arrival, we had dinner at the Bistro, in our park. I ordered the snow crab special as King crab is one of my favorite meals and you can’t get them anywhere for under $1,000 a pound. I burned more calories opening the crab legs than eating them as there was no meat inside most of the legs. I won’t be ordering snow crab again.

Each week we visit different housing complexes to see if this is where we might eventually live. The first week was Leesburg, then Summerfield, Ocala, Mt. Dora, and finally The Villages. Eliminated a few communities, but still no decision.

Went to a local winery, Lakeridge. Normally we like to buy a bottle of wine and order a charcuterie board. Because they had entertainment you had to buy wine by the glass. Well, our bad $9/glass of wine at least got us a “free acrylic glass”.

How many times can you return the same item to Target? Apparently more than once. I bought some shelves for inside the RV. I didn’t take the measurements with me so had to return them. We were in a hurry so John stood in the return line while I got new shelves. We walk out and he still has them. I gave him the Publix receipt instead of the Target one. Take the new shelves home, yup they don’t fit either. The next day I return both sets and bring the measurements. They don’t have the color I want, so I buy them then paint and stain them. You can’t return them now. They are in place and ready to use.

Three and half years of traveling and looking for a bear. We have been to the mountains of Montana, fields of Wyoming, Colorado, Texas, Carolinas, and everywhere in between. Heading to the Canadian Rockies next fall and after some deaths by bear attacks worried about hiking there. Today we took a hike in central Florida and I literally thought to myself at least I don’t have to worry about bears here. Boy was I wrong. On our drive home, we passed at least a 600-pound black bear at the side of the road. We stopped and backed up to get a picture but he dashed into the woods.

The “girls” were supposed to go to Port Canaveral and do a casino cruise on 11/15. It was canceled due to high waves (9 feet) so instead of heading east we went west and had fun at the Hard Rock casino. Unfortunately, no one came home a big winner.

Thanksgiving was wonderful as was the party (not the outcome of the game) on Saturday for the OSU/UM game. Our friends hosted both days and many others at their beautiful home in The Villages. They are probably ready for us to leave on Dec 1st so they can enjoy some peace and quiet before they have to go to California for the birth of their grand

Golfed Harbor Hills, Pelican, Tierra del Sol, and Stonecrest on this trip. Finally, my driver is working again. On the last day, we were bundled in hats, gloves, scarves, long underwear, etc. It was 47 degrees at tee-off.

The girls all got pedicures. After, I did some shopping at the Brownwood paddock, followed by lunch to watch MSU football.

Our mid toilet does not hold water so I ordered new seals and watched a YouTube video on how to change them. It turns out the original seals were fine (I still changed them) but the toilet ball doesn’t shut completely so it’s still not holding water. I guess the project isn’t complete yet

Played bingo at the local Lions Club twice. It was fun, no winners the first time, small winners the second.

Enjoyed a few dinners out, including the Japanese hibachi grill (except I had sushi), City Fire, Lighthouse Point Bar, County Line Smokehouse, and Harvest.

How do you change a wine glass into a bourbon glass? You take an acrylic wine glass you got from the winery and put it in the dishwasher!

Saw some Christmas lights on a farm on our last night.
