RV Winter 2023 – Las Vegas, NV

We Left Lake Havasu on Easter Sunday and our drive took us on I-40 (horrible in Arizona) through California to US 95 North. Gas and diesel in Needles, CA was over $6 per gallon. We filled the RV just south of Henderson, NV for $4.08 the lowest we have seen diesel in a while. Gas was $3.79 at Costco in Vegas and I was able to add Nevada to my travel map for staying overnight in an RV.

We are at an RV park for 7 days in Vegas and I booked the cheap seats (standard site not premium). I can touch the neighbors if I stick my hand out the window. Good thing we aren’t hanging out at the park this week.

Did the scenic drive and hike in Red Rock Canyon followed by a fabulous visit with our friend Joan Burge. It was great to see her and get caught up.

Kicked another item off John’s bucket list. We went to the Hoover Dam and did a boat cruise and saw the dam from the waterside too. Lake Mead is so low, the locals call it Lake Mud now. You can even see on our GPS (in the picture) shows our car parked in the water. Well, now it is land.

I can’t believe how many times we have used our Senior Lifetime pass for national parks. Instead of paying the daily fee, we show them the card and John’s id (pass in his name). The funny thing is when we went to Red Rock we were 5 minutes from the entrance and John said I just realized I left my wallet back home. Of all the times we have entered a national park, this was the one and only one where they didn’t ask for an ID. Talk about luck.

We golfed at the Legacy Golf Course and my game is slowly coming back (except for driving) since the break. I will continue until it is!

We drove over an hour to Valley of the Fire State Park and had a strenuous (at least for me) hike through sand, up and over boulders, and some level ground. It was a beautiful hike and we saw bighorn sheep and the kimono dragon. The hike wasn’t that long (4 miles) but it was up and down and on slippery rocks, which aren’t my best friend.

We ended our week in Vegas at the Strip. Good thing we gamble as a Miller Lite bottle is $9.95 and Vodka and diet coke are $23.25. Seriously?? People were definitely paying for that. We head to Mesquite for a few nights as we meander home.
