Day 12- Day 15 Fredericton, NB to Truro, NS 9/25/19-9/28/19

Our final day of heading east and we will stay put for a few days and explore by car. We are staying in Truro, NS and will drive around Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island (PEI).

Today’s departure is a little smelly. When I released the black tank hose, I realized I didn’t securely affix the sewer hose to the valve. It started gushing out around me, as I quickly shut the valve and reattached. Then when I was finished I didn’t remove the hose properly (it is best to keep it facing up so if there are any fluids (or solids) still in the hose it won’t come running out. So more came out before I lifted the hose and drained it properly. A quick trip to the restroom to wash up before any more work was completed.

Ok, so I forgot that John didn’t fill the tank last time and I did the calculations on when we should stop for diesel. The low fuel light came on, hopefully, we will make it the 33 kilometers to the next station. Well, we did, thankfully, but not after losing another day of my life from anxiety. After research, it appears the light comes on with 50 gallons left so we had plenty of fuel.

When we fueled we fueled the passenger tank. When John opened the slot, the fuel cap was missing. We haven’t fueled on that side since we bought the vehicle. No idea how much fuel we lost because of that. When we got to our destination we found an auto parts store and bought a new cap.

Just a side note, it is weird on Trans-Can 2 in NB there are railroad tracks going through the freeway.

We have heard you don’t want to go outside without your keys as sometimes the door just inadvertently locks. This happened to friends of ours and they had to call a locksmith. What we didn’t expect is to lock ourselves IN the RV. We did the normal top lock and it somehow jammed and we couldn’t open the door. It took about 20 minutes of trying to finally get the door unlocked.

Later in the day John was taking a shower and the shower latch locked him in. It was a good thing I was around to let him out.

Although the blog is specifically to discuss the actual process, problems, and solutions of the RV to see if this is something we want to do again. However we took a three day break as this was our final destination going east.

So we have three days in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward island. We decide we’re going to tour all 3 days and see a different section everyday.

Day 1 we went to the western and northern parts of Nova Scotia. First stop a small town on the Bay of Fundy and saw it at its lowest tide and then drove to Peggy’s Cove and enjoyed the beautiful scenery there, and finished up with dinner in Halifax then drove back to the campground. We drove about 7 hours that day. Most of the rest of the country side is farmland and they did get hit with the hurricane Dorian and lost quite a bit of trees and crops.

On day 2 we took the 8 a.m. ferry to Prince Edward island to see a lighthouse on the south side then over to Charlottetown then up to the national Park to see the beach and then back around to the ferry, driving through the eastern part of PEI. It was another long day of driving because we had to be up at 5:30 to make it to the 8 a.m. ferry.

We have noticed in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and PEI since it is past tourist season most of the local establishments are closed making it difficult to really enjoy all the little towns.

Originally on day 3 we planned on touring the eastern and northern part of Nova Scotia but we weren’t up to another 8 hours of driving so we decided to golf at the Brookfield Golf and country club. We got paired up with two brothers and learned a lot about their lives, the geography, and the economics of Canada. We finished the day by going into Truro to a sports bar to watch Saturday college football. A lovely three days in Nova Scotia in PEI.
